The Work We Don’t Talk About
You chose—or were called—to enter the field, in quiet compassionate Service to others at the intersection of health and disease. You overcame every barrier to get there: Physics (the pertinent and the irrelevant kind), ever-changing facets of technology and disease, and an unending parade of personalities whose needs respected neither the clock nor the calendar. You climbed over it all. And perhaps you've done it at a price.
Because your focus was on a greater purpose, you didn't make time to think about the micro-injuries: the sore wrist at the end of a shift, the back that pinched when you turned to reach the high shelf at home... the shoulder that woke you up in the night.
You adapted—or pushed on—like all of us do. And you did it alone, because at your perpetual bedside, you're a Team of One, But your body is a careful Accountant, adding up every stretch, sprain and unfavorable posture, no matter how small.
Yours is an orthopedic, musculoskeletal War of micro-attrition and perhaps the toll is starting to come due. Perhaps you know the damage is already done. Possibly, it has cost you your Calling. Possibly, it has already cost you your rightful future capacity and choices.
It doesn't have to, and soon it might end forever. You still have a choice.
Your Story Can Easily Be the Agent of Change
You were—we all are—production units, and we accept that aspect of our Profession, because the need is so great.
But what if the same minds that conquered the invisible with ultrasound could send you a Servant, that would leverage your skill, help protect your health, and advance you to your Next Level of service and reward?
It all starts with us ourselves naming the problem. Peer-to-peer, we're diligently gathering the real stories from Sonographers worldwide who have had, or do still have repetitive strain injuries, chronic pain related to scanning, lost income due to temporary injury, permanent damage, or even having had to leave the field.:
Tell us your story: You can stay anonymous or leave your name.
At this point with forthcoming technology, it might be one of the most important contributions to the Field you could make. We thank you in advance for what you're about to do... and the incredible Change it can help bring about.
Your perspective helps define what this work truly demands—and grow it into what it can soon become for everyone..
We'll gratefully treat it with full confidentiality and deep respect.
